Road trip to Coba

Posted: under General Interest.

Our hungry stomach took us to the fisherman’s cove in downtown Akumal. We had 2 big fish and shrimp ceviches and a couple of shrimp quesadillas with fresh Mexican beer. Over lunch I talked my mom and my boyfriend over for a quick drive to the pyramids of Coba and they quickly agreed, which took me by surprise.

I didn’t know weather or not we were going to get there on time, still we stocked to the plan. The drive was not a quick one, Riviera Maya has the longest and boring highways, it took us 50 minutes to get there and for our surprise we made it on time, exactly two hours before closing time.
We rented bikes and drove them for 7 miles till we got to the principal pyramid. We had the best afternoon on top of it; the view at that height was outstanding! The stairway was almost vertical and it had a rope on the side, supposedly to make you feel secure, still my mom couldn’t make it to the top cause she suffers from vertigo.

On the top we saw a large, thin and green snake, which calmly posed for the pictures I took of her. We stood on the edge of the stairway for half and hour with an incredible view of the jungle landscape.

Finally on our way back to the car a bunch of monkeys passed in front of us. At that moment we felt so lucky. We got to Casa Yardena the villa we were staying at, without daylight and we quickly got upstairs to sleep.

Tips on Buyinga Used Utility Trailer

Posted: under General Interest.

Today, more and more people are buying small trailers of one sort or another. Considering fuel prices and the common act of downsizing family vehicles, owning a good utility trailer makes sense. The main reasons behind owning a trailer is usually based upon business or a family hobby which requires transporting your large toys. Utility trailers can range from small open bed landscaping style trailers to larger enclosed cargo trailers with locking ramp style doors. There are also snowmobile trailers, motorcycle trailers, camping trailers large and small and of course, and boat trailers to mention some. The first step in shopping for a trailer is to decide which type is best for your personal needs.

If you intend to haul small recreation vehicles or motorcycles, then an open flatbed trailer might serve your needs. Then again, if you need extra space at home for storing your toys, you might consider going with a larger enclosed trailer. These are easily locked and stored next to a house or driveway. You would be surprised at how much space you can find in your garage when you start moving your recreation vehicles and such to a storage trailer.

Through the years, I’ve bought and sold many trailers relating to my business and also my hobbies. As most of us find, locating a good used trailer can be a challenge at times but with the advent of online trailer sales, this problem has been solved. You can almost always find the exact type and size trailer you are looking for if you have a bit of patience. It is also very handy to be able to purchase all your trailer parts and accessories on the web also. You can easily find everything from replacement lighting to axles and brakes for just about any utility trailer without leaving your desk.

If you see a new trailer in your future, you really should click through and read this excellent article that will help you select the best utility trailer for your personal needs.

Is your copier / fax / printer / scanner a security risk?

Posted: under General Interest.

Records Management has grown in the last decade from traditional storing of old documents in boxes in far away warehouses to a dynamic work process that include electronic documents stored in so many places that most people have no idea where they really are. Document and records audits continually find the most incredible places that staff squirrel away personal copies for themselves.

In recent years, new features in Microsoft Exchange 2007 & 2010, and the Microsoft Suite of Office products has give the Record Manager ways to limit the growth of documents on servers by enforcing a time to live. Expiring documents according to a records retention schedule and removing them from the corporate network file servers has never been easier. Preventing the printing, duplication and forwarding of electronic documents via computer software has also been much improved although the high speed copier/fax/scanner is usually a forgotten risk.

Most of these multipurpose printers/fax/scanners now have the ability to email documents and reports directly to in house email servers. A useful feature except that if they can send email to your in house corporate server, they can send it out of the corporate firewall just as easily.

Ensuring that there are restrictions on these devices usually managed by the IT staff are the responsibility of the Records Management staff. Usually simply removing the default gateway setting on the unit itself will prevent forwarding outside the firewall d does the job quite effectively. However in some cases a sophisticated firewall settings need to be employed to ensure that the private information printed and scanned internally stays internal.
